Jon Gruden to Notre Dame?

This is a story that has been bouncing around the internet today and it caught my eye. The possibility former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden making the jump to the college ranks and coaching Notre Dame. Yes, you read that correctly, watch out Chucky could be coming to a college campus near you.

While Notre Dame has not formally addressed these allegations, their direction of media relations stated the rumors were nothing more than that. Speculations by some Internet source. The Notre Dame official went on to state that who ever started the rumors did so in an effort to sabotage Notre Dame's recruiting efforts.

Now sabotage seems like a bit of a stretch. Even if this is nothing more than an internet rumor I highly doubt that someone was sitting at their laptop and came up with this as the ultimate idea to destroy Notre Dame football. In all honestly Charlie Weis is doing a good job of doing that on his own.

While I do not think that Chucky will be moving to South Bend this winter, I would not put it out of the realm of possibility. Weis has struggled since arriving at Notre Dame, and he is proven in effective as cultivating any sort of talent. The alumni are hot on his tail and he will need to make some serious progress during the 2009 season. Irish fans must put their faith in the idea that what they saw in the Hawaii Bowl was just the beginning and it will be carried over to next season. If that is not the case then Irish fans should prepare themselves for good ole Jon Gruden.
