Walker Sports College Football Poll: Final Poll of 2009

After a long journey we have reached the end of the 2009 college football season, and what a long strange trip it has been. In some ways the 2009 season was a bit boring, but that's only if you believe the AP Polls. This is the Walker Sports Poll there have been plenty of shake ups along the way. Don't believe me? Check out our final poll of the season, and compare it to our first poll of the season.

1) Alabama Crimson Tide: Nick Saban's boys came out with a goal for 2009, and on Thursday night they achieved their goal. Undefeated and they won the BCS National Championship game.

2) Boise State Broncos: Undefeated again. Chris Peterson is a masterful coach, and his fake punt call proved he is willing to do whatever it takes to insure his team wins.

3) Texas Longhorns: If there is one team I feel sorry for it is the Longhorns. Colt McCoy's injury changed the outcome of the game. There is no doubt in my mind if McCoy stays healthy, the Longhorns would be at the top of the poll.

4) Florida Gators: There's a lot of change around this program with the Urban Meyer mess and Tim Tebow leaving. Despite the distractions, the Gators stomped a mud hole in the Cincinnati Bearcats on New Year's day.

5) TCU Horned Frogs: The Horned Frog are a great team, and I thought they had a chance go go undefeated. Unfortunately Boise State has made the Fiesta Bowl their new home and TCU was their latest victim. Don't worry this team is stake and will be back again.

6) Cincinnati Bearcats: The Sugar Bowl was am embarrassment, Brian Kelly walking out was an embarrassment. It has not been a good month for the Bearcats, and things are likely to get worse.

7) Ohio State Buckeyes: The Buckeyes silenced all the critics with their win in the Rose Bowl. Look for this team to be back in the BCS again next year.

8) Oregon Ducks: I still love my Ducks. Despite the lost in the Rose Bowl Chip Kelly and his boys should be very proud of what they accomplished this season.

9) Iowa Hawkeyes: Iowa proved how good they are by destroying Georgia Tech. If it was not for a late season injury to their quarterback, Iowa could have made the Rose Bowl.

10) Penn State Nitey Lions: Penn State played in the most entertaining bowl game of 2009, and wrapped up the season with another top 10 finish.

11) Virginia Tech Hokies: The Hokies were force to reload this season and they did a great job of it. This team will be a threat next season.

12) BYU Cougars: Once again the Cougars proved to have a solid season. They will need to improve as the Mountain West Conference becomes more intense.

13) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: Paul Johnson needs to find a way to change his offense around when teams have more than a week to prepare for them. Once they find that solution, the Yellow Jackets will be on their way.

14) LSU Tigers: Les Miles needs to gain a better understanding of clock management. Once he does that the Tigers will be back on track.

15) Pittsburgh Panthers: It's still hard to believe but the Pitt Panthers are very close to become a prominent Big East team.

16) Nebraska Cornhuskers: To think this team was 1 play away from winning the Big 12. Soak it up Cornhusker fans because Suh won't be around to save you next season.

17) Wisconsin Badgers: Doesn't it seem like the Badgers always find their way into the middle part of the top 25?

18) Utah Utes: Pretty much the same fate as BYU. Same state same fan base, same results.

19) Clemson Tigers: I still believe the Tigers had the best player in the country on their roster in C.J. Spiller.

20) Miami Hurricanes: The Canes came out flat in their bowl game. Focus remains a program for this program.

21) Central Michigan Chippewas: Great season, ranked in the top 25 for the first time ever. Great bowl game. The entire Chippewas program should be proud of what they accomplished.

22) Texas Tech: Mike Leach may be gone, but the Red Raiders still have plenty of fire power left on offense.

23) West Virginia Mountaineers: They never stood a chance in the Gator Bowl. But they played their hearts out. WVU has become a solid program.

24) Oregon State Beavers: A solid team out in the PAC 10.

25)Oklahoma Sooners: While there is no doubt this is not where the Sooners wanted to end up in the rankings, they should be happy to just climb their way back into the top 25.
